Grubhof Castle

Grubhof Castle is located in the municipality of St. Martin bei Lofer in the Zell am See district in the state of Salzburg (St. Martin 2). The castle is reminiscent of a villa building from the Wilhelminian era ; The originally medieval residence received this appearance towards the end of the 19th century.

history

Around 1300 the Hof zu Grub in the Louer was mentioned as an archbishop's fief ; Gebhard von Velben appeared to be the owner. The Grueber family was mentioned here from 1325. Heinrich Grueber was followed by his son Jakob, and he was followed by Ulrich Grueber (1409). The next in this series was Nicolas Grueber (1428) and after him Hans Gruber. His widow Katrein Payrin sold half of her share to her brother-in-law Conrad Gruber, the other half was bought by Adelgern Hunt after 1490. In 1518 Conrad Gruber sold the farm to Wolfgang Pichler.

In 1537 the royal Salzburg councilor Ludwig Ritz acquired the farm and had it converted into a residence in 1541. His application for freedom from noblemen was rejected in 1546, but in 1593 the noble seat appeared to have received this tax privilege. In 1561 his three sons and five daughters followed him in the estate. Hermann Ritz was able to acquire the entire inheritance from these again. In 1620 it went to his two sons, who sold the property to the brothers Hans Ludwig and Bernhard Wilhelm from a branch line of the Ritz in 1624. The last of the Ritz was Emeran Raimund Ritz († 1708). His widow Maria Barbara Goldin, née von Schernberg, married Baron Franz Dietrich von Motzl, who in 1712 also acquired the shares of the other heirs. From this family followed Franz Josef and then Georg Franz Anton Freiherren von Motzl zu Grubhof. The latter had extensive renovations carried out from 1783 to 1785. The property passed through his widow to her niece Waldburga Auer von Winkl , who was married to Baron Anselm Karl von Imhof. In the same year the property was all modified .

In 1828 the brothers Ferdinand and Johann Nepomuk von Rehlingen bought the castle by barter. In 1829 the royal Bavarian main salt office in Reichenhall bought the castle and the property belonging to it. In 1868 the castle was sold to Josef Faistauer, who handed it over to his son Josef Faistauer in 1879. His son Anton Faistauer was born here.

Grubhof Castle today

In 1890 the German artificial fertilizer manufacturer Herrmann Schmidtmann bought the noble estate and the surrounding area. The residence was converted to its present form by the Salzburg architect Josef Wessicken and the master builder Jakob Ceconi . The old core was covered with a new facade in 1892. An extension was added to the tower side. A building in the form of an oversized villa was created. In 1923 Florence von Poser, Schmidtmann's daughter, acquired the property. She was married to the German general Arno von Poser and Groß-Naedlitz († 1940) and died in 1963. As early as 1956, Hildegard Wolff, Maria Spitzy and Florence Schandl (married Dachmann) owned one third each. In 1964, Grubhof Castle came into the possession of Johann Wilhelm Zepp. This was followed (1970) by Andreas Schuller from Munich. The castle has been restored and equipped with contemporary living comfort. Schloss Grubhof has been owned by Alpenbau GmbH since 1983.

The castle is privately owned and operated as a hotel; it houses 32 holiday apartments and a restaurant on the ground floor.
