Kuenburg Castle (Tamsweg)
The Kuenburg (Tamsweg) Castle is located in the town of Tamsweg in Lungau the country Salzburg (Kirchengasse 107).
history
Christopher III. von Kuenburg was employed as the caretaker of Moosham in 1556 , so this family began buying property in the Lungau. The Kuenburg Castle was created through the purchase and renovation of several houses that had existed since the 15th century by the Kuenburg family , who wanted to create a center of power here. Christopher III. concluded an inheritance contract with his brother Erasam, through which the family's goods were divided between the Kuenburg-Tamsweg and Kuenburg- Neukirchen lines. In 1681 a Fideikommiss was set up, which was abolished in 1812 during the Bavarian occupation of Salzburg, but in fact existed until 1954.
Owned the castle were: Christoph IV. (1584), Georg Carl, Reichardt, Erasam and Christoph V. (1592), Christoph VI. Sigmund (1640, son of Reichardt), Johann Christoph VI. (1704), Johann Maximilian Siegmund (1735), Johann Nepomuk Christoph Karl (1773), Franz Kaspar Wilhelm (1789, brother of Johann), Alois Johann Nepomuk (1809), Wilhelm Caspar Ludwig (1839), Alois Josef Ferdinand (1870) , Therese, née Goes, Karoline Countess Cerrini, née Kuenburg, and Freiin Bertha Wucherer (1874), Alois (1884), Marianne Baronin Buddenbrock (daughter of Alois), and Wilhelm Kuenburg (son of Therese) (1885), 1886 the seven Children of Baroness Wucherer and her husband Erich Baron Buddenbrock, 1907 Marianne Buddenbrock alone, 1933 Siegfried Kuenburg-Ungersbach from the Bohemian line, 1946 Eberhard Kuenburg by donation.
Building history of Kuenburg Castle
The first houses here were a wooden house with a bathroom and a brick box and a so-called Stöckl from 1419 in 1450. The conversion of the purchased houses into a palace was completed in 1598. This building was badly damaged by the market fire of 1742, but could be rebuilt in the form of a baroque palace by the Lambrecht builder Fidelis Hainzl. Significant artists of the time contributed to the redesign, such as the painter Gregor Lederwasch IV , the plasterer Giovanni Gaetano Androi , who created the main portal; the Salzburg blacksmith Philipp Hinterseer created the wrought-iron alliance coat of arms Kuenburg-Rollingen for the entrance gate. The palace park, laid out in 1745 with the old trees, has been rededicated in the meantime. In the entrance there is an inscription from the Kapuzinerkirche, which was demolished in 1790, which reminds of the builder of this church from 1671, Archbishop Max Gandolf von Kuenburg .
Kuenburg Castle today
In 1954, the market town of Tamsweg bought the castle. In 2013 a fundamentally revised redesign as a cultural center was discussed. From summer 2016, the outdated building was extensively renovated with the help of mainly local craft businesses. A new event hall - the Kuenburgsaal - was created and social facilities were located on the ground floor. The public library is on the first floor. The entire building was designed to be barrier-free. The top floor was expanded in 1998, where the rehearsal rooms for the citizens' music, song board and music center are now.
