Franz Xaver King

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Franz Xaver König (* around 1711 ; † December 24, 1782 in Salzburg ) was a Rococo painter from Salzburg .

Life

The son of a Salzburg corporal married in 1748 and received citizenship in Salzburg. The painter Peter Paul Perwanger , who may have been his teacher or master, acted as best man . König worked mainly for the St. Peter monastery , which was redesigned under Abbot Beda Seeauer (1753–1786). Among other things, he created ceiling frescoes in the collegiate church , the authorship of which is not entirely clear, however. König is named as a painter in the archives of St. Peter, but may have passed the commission on to Johann Weiß  .

In addition to frescoes and altarpieces, Franz Xaver König also painted portraits and landscapes. He was trained on the Venetians and is considered the main representative of Rococo painting in Salzburg.
