Remains of the Château des Caramans in Roissy-en-France

The castle Les Caramans ( French Château des Caramans ) in Roissy-en-France , a municipality in the Val-d'Oise department in the French region of Île-de-France , was built at the beginning of the 18th century. The remains of the castle on the Allée du Verger have been on the list of cultural monuments in France as Monument historique since 1925 .

history

The classicist castle was built for Claude de Mesmes, comte d'Avaux, according to the plans of the Swedish architect Nicodemus Tessin the Younger . The castle, which was started in 1703, replaces a previous building. The two-storey building with a mansard roof consisted of three pavilions that were connected by galleries. During the French Revolution in 1794, the castle was looted and most of it was destroyed. Today only the east wall and the south portal of the orangery remain. This is adorned by a gable triangle with relief, which rests on pilasters .
