Mathod Castle

The Mathod Castle is a representative country estate in the municipality Mathod in Yverdon-les-Bains , Switzerland .

description

The castle was built from 1765 to 1778 by the Dutch architect Gaspard Brumann . The representative main facade with three risalits is stylistically categorized between baroque and early classicism , whereby Palladian influences are also unmistakable. The side wings are pilasters Ionic divided. The end of each is an upper storey that tapers with volutes and is crowned by a segmented gable. The less prominent central projection forms a large portico with columns of the Tuscan order . A lively designed upper floor with subtle but effective architectural sculpture around a dial and an oculus completes the central projection.

The park with an obelisk fountain belonging to the castle is also remarkable .
