Mickeln Castle is a property in the Himmelgeist district of Düsseldorf . It stands on the site of the Mickeln House , which burned down in 1836 and dates back to 1210. The owner at the time, Prosper Ludwig von Arenberg , had the palace rebuilt as a summer residence by the architect Josef Niehaus with the sum insured . Engravings from villas by the architect Galeazzo Alessi from the 16th century served as models.

The castle forms a square with a side length of 19.55 meters and is designed the same on all four sides, apart from the flight of stairs on the north side. The way to the entrance portal is lined with linden trees , a concept that dates back to 1843, when the adjoining park was planned by the garden architect Maximilian Friedrich Weyhe . Part of the current tree population dates from this time, such as B. plane trees , copper beeches and two Lebanon cedars ; the latter are among the Düsseldorf natural monuments .

Since June 2000 the castle has been used by the Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf as a conference center and guest house.
