The Schloss Rossatz is a Renaissance - castle in the municipality Rossatz-Arnsdorf in the district of Krems-Land in Lower Austria . It is a listed building .
history
At the beginning of the 9th century, Emperor Charlemagne donated areas in the Rossatz area to the Lower Bavarian monastery of Metten . In 985 the rule of Rossatz was recaptured by the Hungarians.
In the 11th century, Metten came to the Babenbergs as their own monastery , who were previously bailiffs of the monastery. They took the Rossatz Castle as their own. For a long time, Rossatz was the only sovereign property in the Wachau . King Ottokar II Přemysl enfeoffed Albero V. von Kuenring with the rule. The widow of Leutold I. von Kuenring-Dürnstein sold it to Reinprecht I. von Walsee .
In 1462/64 it came to the Lords of Spaur as free property . Further owners were from 1547 the Kirchberger, from 1578 the Aspan, 1581 the Geymann , 1663 the Lamberg , 1755 the Mollart . In 1768 Rossatz came to the counts of Schönborn-Buchheim , who united it with their Mautern rule . Since 1859 it has been owned by the Guts- und Waldgenossenschaft Rossatz (today's Rossatz Agricultural Association). In 1989 it was restored.
description
The castle is located on the church square.
The three-storey, two-winged building is angled once on the street side and is heavily integrated into the rest of the development on the church square. The outer front with regular window axes, some of which are painted as pseudo architecture, is dated to the year 1582 and shows part of a sgraffito band as the remainder of the Renaissance decoration.
The triangular inner courtyard is bordered by two wings in the shape of a hook. Both wings are the same length. The one on the north side shows three-storey, but different types of arcades , which extend with an arch onto the main wing. The main wing shows a painted sundial dated 1600 on the courtyard side .
The medieval building stock is likely to match the palace building of the late 16th century. to have fallen victim.
