The Schöndorf Castle is located in the municipality of Vöcklabruck in Vöcklabruck of Upper Austria (Gmundnerstraße 76).

history

In the 12th century, followers of the Counts of Regau settled in Schöndorf . In 1135 a Wezilo von Schöndorf handed over his property in Wagrain to the prince-provost of Berchtesgaden through During von Vöckla . In 1301 a Friedrich von Schöndorf acquired a fiefdom from Mondsee on the Attersee . His sons were followers of Heinrich von Schaunburg . 1313 a Maynhart of the Schondorfer is named. In 1373 Nikolaus Perkheimer named himself after the seat of Schöndorf. In a document from St. Florian Monastery in 1453, Andreas Schöndorfer appears among the knightly witnesses.

Schöndorf was half under the feudal rule of the Habsburg sovereign and the other half under that of the Paiss zu Mitterberg . The rights of the Paiss went to the Fronhofer zu Walkering in 1550 .

In 1572 the keeper of the Puchheim estate , Hans Plass zu Hofegg, acquired rights to the Schöndorfer Mühle, which he then sold again to Weikard von Polheim . In exchange, he received subjects and land belonging to the Schöndorf lordship from Hans Frondorfer and sold the entire property to David Engl zu Wagrain in 1602 . This family remained in the possession of Schöndorf until 1848. Schöndorf then passed to the Braun family from Konstanz , who founded the file and tool factory there, Ernst Braun & Sons (from 1999 Braun's Maschinenfabrik Ges.mbH). Isidor Karl Braun (1801–1866) was the founder of the company is still run as a family business today.

A fire in 1934 destroyed parts of the castle, as a result two small towers were not rebuilt.
