layout

The original castle had a double portico . This was oriented to the west. There was also a large number of valuable rooms.

history

Originally on the estate of the castle was a "Pletischach" called Wehrhof , which probably existed since the 12th century. It was in the possession of the Stubenberger . The Schüttinger family, from whose name the castle derives its name, can be traced back to the 14th century. In 1361 the Schüttinger donated the property to the Dominican nuns' monastery in Graz . The order mainly used the building as a winegrower's house for the wine grown on the property.

In 1730 the estate passed into the possession of the Ferdinandeum in Graz. By 1773 the estate was expanded into a small castle. It was probably used as a recreation building for the Ferdinandeum teachers. Anton Schellenbauer bought the castle in 1786 and managed it together with Altenberg Castle, which was acquired in 1790 . In 1876 the property went to the imperial baron von Haan. In 1900 the entire castle was rebuilt and again served as a winegrower's house.

Legend

There is a legend that Schütting Castle is connected to Rehregg Castle via an underground passage. To date, no evidence of such a walk has been found.
