Castle Tausendlust
The thousandlust castle is a castle in Hitzendorf in Styria , formerly also called Altenburg Castle . It was built in the second half of the 16th century and is now privately owned.
location
The Tausendlust castle is located on the road that leads from the Höllberg cadastral community , which belongs to Hitzendorf, to Stein in Attendorf . It is located on a ridge that separates the Liebochtal from the Södingtal and drops steeply to the east.
layout
The Tausendlust Castle is a two-story (three-story) building and is still largely in its original state. Only one side wing and the tower were demolished in 1799 and 1823.
history
The castle was built in the second half of the 16th century by Alexander Rüdt von Khollenburg under the name Altenburg. A medieval castle complex was probably located at this point, but its existence has not yet been proven. In 1605 the property went to Adam Gabelkhofer. His daughter sold the estate together with the dairy , the cellar and the wine press to Christof Rudolf Freiherrn von Eibiswald in 1650 . Since he could not hold the castle because of the low income from viticulture, it was returned to its original owner a year later. Two decades later, the property passed into the possession of Johann Caspar von Kellersperg. The Kellersperg family were the lords of the castle for about 250 years. The tower was destroyed by lightning in 1825 and then removed. In 1878 it is mentioned that the castle was largely derelict and only served as a winery. Today it is privately owned and is being renovated.
