Burgrest Schomburg

Burgrest Schomburg , also called Schomburg Castle , is the ruin of a hilltop castle at 560  m above sea level. NHN high hill above the right bank of the Untere Argen near the Schomburg district of the city of Wangen im Allgäu in the Ravensburg district ( Baden-Württemberg ).

The castle was built around 1500 by Ulrich Siber not far from the sister complex Burg Alt-Schomburg . The castle later came into the possession of the Counts of Montfort , who expanded it in 1754 to resemble a castle. With the rule of Schomburg, the castle complex came to the House of Habsburg in 1779 as part of the bankruptcy proceedings of the Counts of Montfort .

From 1836 the castle was demolished, in 1899 a farm building burned down. Only remains of the foundations of the former castle complex are preserved.
