history

In the second half of the 12th century, the Bohemian Queen Judith founded a Benedictine monastery on the site of the later castle , which was the second oldest of its kind in Bohemia. It was related to the warm springs near Schönau. This monastery fell victim to the Hussite Wars and was abandoned.

During the reign of the Bohemian Queen Johanna von Rosental , in the second half of the 15th century, a fortress was built on the ruins . Remnants of the preserved Romanesque and Gothic walls were integrated into the castle, which can be found in the eastern part of the castle today. The Romanesque crypt of the monastery basilica has also been preserved to this day . Today the floor plan of this monastery basilica is also shown in the courtyard of the palace.

In the 16th century, Wolf von Wrzessowitz had a church built whose patronage was the Exaltation of the Holy Cross . Later, this was simply called the Castle Church of the Holy Cross (Czech. Zámecký kostel Povýšení sv. Kříže ). The main building was also started in the late Gothic style at this time .

In 1585 the Teplitz rule came into the possession of the von Kinsky family . The unfinished main wing was rebuilt in the Renaissance style , and the pleasure house , called the Kolostuj Tower, was built. When the Bohemian nobleman Wilhelm Kinsky was murdered together with Wallenstein in Eger in 1634 , the time of the Kinskys in Teplitz ended.

The imperial marshal Johann von Aldringen received the confiscated rule . Its successors, the noble Clary-Aldringen family , carried out extensive baroque and classicist conversions and extensions. They had the "New Building" (west wing) built around the baroque style and added the theater in the second half of the 18th century.

During the last major renovation, started at the end of the 18th century, the front of the main building was erected in the classicist style. The protruding into the park empire - vestibule was built in 1800. The castle church was remodeled 1798 to 1806 in the style of the time.

In addition, the lords of the castle made the property a meeting place for well-known people from politics and society. The castle guests included Charles Joseph de Ligne , Giacomo Casanova , Johann Wolfgang von Goethe , Frédéric Chopin and Franz Liszt .

In October 1945 the castle was expropriated due to Decree No. 108 of the President and the noble family was expelled from the country.

Valuable interiors have been preserved inside Teplitz Castle, such as B. the Renaissance hall with a painted coffered ceiling , the rococo hall with rich stucco decoration and other contemporary furnishings.
