Unterfinningen Castle, today a restaurant-country inn

Unterfinningen Castle was a moated castle. The moat surrounding the building was leveled. It is located in Unterfinningen , a district of Finningen in the district of Dillingen an der Donau .

history

The former castle lord Finningen was documented in 1458 as castrum fossatum mentioned. It was owned by the Augsburg monastery of St. Ulrich and Afra for more than four centuries and it was the court and administrative seat of the monastery’s Hofmark. In 1803 the castle passed into state ownership in the course of secularization .

Today's Schlössle , built in 1530, is a three-storey saddle roof building with a laterally offset Augsburg flat bay window on the north gable. The stately building dates back to the first half of the 16th century:

Many of the equipment details are reminiscent of the history of the building. On the first floor there is another room with bandwork from around 1720. On the second floor, the coat of arms in the ceiling stucco of a shellwork cartouche from around 1750 shows that the building was owned by the Sankt Ulrich und Afra monastery. On the ground floor, the massive vaulted ceilings still breathe the spirit and mentality of the original builder .

Since 1929 the castle has been owned by the Brugger family, who run a country restaurant in the historic building.
