Unterfinningen
Unterfinningen is a place in the municipality of Finningen and a district in the Swabian district of Dillingen on the Danube . The community of Finningen was formed on January 1, 1974 from the independent communities of Oberfinningen and Unterfinningen. On May 1, 1978, the previously independent municipality of Mörslingen was incorporated.
history
The oldest archaeological finds in the Unterfinningen district date from the Middle and New Stone Age . One and a half kilometers northeast of the village is the so-called Osterstein , a boulder that was thrown there by the meteorite impact in the Ries around 15 million years ago. The stone was the center of a prehistoric place of worship that was explored during excavations in the 1950s. Around 93,000 ceramic shards were found that came from smashed sacrificial vessels.
Unterfinningen is first documented in 1262. In 1334 the place is handed down as Herrenfinningen , which indicates the seat of an aristocratic rule. The lords of Finningen are mentioned from 1268. They sold their property to the Lords of Erslingen , who have been called Unterfinningen since 1345. They sold their property in 1443 to the St. Ulrich and Afra monastery in Augsburg. Unterfinningen remained the seat of a court until the secularization in 1803 . The seat of this Hofmark was the moated castle to the north of St. Martin's Church .
Religions
Unterfinningen is the seat of an old parish . The current parish church of St. Martin was built around 1680.
