Oberfinningen

Oberfinningen is a place in the municipality of Finningen and a district in the Swabian district of Dillingen on the Danube . The community of Finningen was formed on January 1, 1974 from the independent communities of Oberfinningen and Unterfinningen . On May 1, 1978, the previously independent municipality of Mörslingen was incorporated.

history

The oldest archaeological finds in the Oberfinningen district date from the Neolithic Age . A Roman estate ( villa rustica ) is located in the “Staudenbühl” corridor.

As early as 1175, property in Oberfinningen is mentioned in the land register of the monastery of St. Ulrich and Afra in Augsburg. The lower jurisdiction in the place exercised the rule Unterfinningen. The lower jurisdiction passed to the monastery around 1417/39. The Oberfinningen possessions of St. Ulrich and Afra, with seven farms and 24 Sölden in 1560, belonged to the Hofmark Unterfinningen until secularization in 1803 . The rest of the possessions in Oberfinningen belonged to six other landlords , such as B. Pfalz-Neuburg .

Religions

Oberfinningen is the seat of an old parish . In the course of the Reformation in 1543 the parish of Oberfinningen was merged with that of Unterfinningen. After the re-catholicization in 1616, it remained with this union.

The current parish church of St. Johannes was built between 1861 and 1863 in the neo-Romanesque style on the site of a previous building. The Lourdes Chapel, built between 1894 and 1898, is located on the boundary of Unterfinningen.
