The abandoned Waldberg Castle was in the Arbing district of Reischach in the Altötting district of Bavaria .

history

The builders of the castle were the Perger ( Lords Perge von Perg ) in 1342 . Their name probably comes from the place Berg bei Arbing. This family, who contributed to the construction of the St. Veit church in Berg, is mentioned for the first time in 1269. In 1375, Ulrich der Perger, son of Hans der Perger († before 1392), is named as the owner of the court brands Arbing and Waldberg. Then the property passed through his niece Elisabeth as marriage property to Hans von Trenbeck, ducal caretaker and forester of Oettingen. A document has been preserved from 1461 with which Thomas von Trenbeck sold Waldberg to his cousin Hans, Mautner von Schärding . From this († 1463) the property passed to his son Georg, keeper of Kraiburg and Reichenhall . Of the seven children of George († 1515), the eldest son Wilhelm inherited this property first, and after his childless death († 1566) his brother Hans, land steward and vicar of Burghausen . Hans Georg († 1590) was the sole heir of his sons. His son and sole heir Hans Christoph was the last of the Trenbecks († March 21, 1637). His property was divided among his sisters, with Anna Maria, von Gumppenberg, who had been married since 1617, who received the Waldberg, Arbing and Neubau court brands. Her daughter Elisabeth brought these goods into her marriage to Hans Joachim Freiherr von Leibelfing. In 1646 Leibelfing sold these goods to Hanns Ulrich Mändel, Freiherr von Deutenkirchen. His son and heir (1685) Anton Joseph Mändel got into debt so much that his goods came to the Gant . 1727 acquired Waldberg and Arbing Maria Caroline Charlotte von Spreti, b. from Ingenheim . On April 18, 1730, she sold these possessions to Count Ignaz von Törring-Jettenberg that this in his Hofmark Winhöring einantwortete . The rest of the story then corresponds to that of Hofmark Winhöring . Waldburg Castle was allodified by Joseph August von Törring-Gutenzell on July 7, 1808 .

Structure of Waldberg Castle

According to Michael Wening , Waldberg Castle was a four-story, late-Gothic box building on a hill. At the corners there were small watch towers that were crowned with onion domes. A steep bridge led to the castle, below a palisade fence separated the castle area from rural buildings.

The castle was auctioned by Neuötting's city mason at the end of the 18th century and then demolished. The castle was about 725 m east-southeast of the Arbing church in Waldberg. Traces of the moat and the tower hill have been preserved .
