Wenckheim Palace (Szabadkígyós)
Wenckheim Castle ( Hungarian Wenckheim-kastély ) is located in Szabadkígyós in Békés County , southern Hungary.
history
The area had been in the possession of the Wenckheim family since the Ottoman rule was driven out . Countess Christina Wenckheim commissioned the important architect Miklós Ybl to build the palace. It was built between 1874 and 1879. The architectural style is neo-renaissance.

The castle is surrounded by a large nature park. Due to the good state of nature, the facility became part of the Körös-Maros National Park in 1954 .
Trivia
The castle was used in the film Fallen - Engelsnacht , a film adaptation of the novel Engelsnacht , together with the Schossberg castle as a film set for the fictional Sword & Cross Academy.
