Miklós Ybl
Miklós Ybl , ( German Nikolaus Ybl , born April 6, 1814 in Székesfehérvár , Austrian Empire , † January 22, 1891 in Budapest , Austria-Hungary ) was a Hungarian architect and an important representative of European historicism . The State Opera in Budapest is one of his most famous works .
Life
Ybl studied from 1825 to 1831 at the Vienna Polytechnic . From 1832 he worked in the office of the architect Mihály Pollack , from 1836 for Henrik Koch , a representative of neoclassicism . Between 1840 and 1842 he went on study trips to Munich and Italy .
He carried out his first assignment with Ágost Pollack , Mihály Pollack's son. It was the Ikervár Castle by Lajos Batthyány . Ybl's early style can be described as romantic with Romanesque elements. His later work is more of the neo-renaissance .
A big disappointment in his life was that although he helped found the Hungarian Academy of Sciences , he was not elected a member.
His grave is on the Kerepesi temető ( German Kerepescher Friedhof ) in Budapest.
In 1953 the Ybl Miklós-díj ("Miklós Ybl Prize") was donated and in 2009 an asteroid was named after him: (166886) Ybl .
