The von Wenkheim family (also: Wenckheim ) is a Franconian aristocratic family whose members today are divided into different branches of the family. The head office that gives it its name is Großwenkheim , today a district of Münnerstadt in the Lower Franconian district of Bad Kissingen .

history

Due to their possessions, the family was registered in the knight cantons of Rhön-Werra and Steigerwald . Members of the family belonged to the Society of Fürspänger .

They had possessions in Lower Franconia. a. in Schonungen , Burgstall Willanzheim , Tower Hill Willanzheim .

Hungary

A branch of the family established itself in the Kingdom of Hungary and became important under the rule of the Habsburgs. The family owned extensive estates and castles across Hungary. After the First World War, parts of it were in Romania and today's Slovakia, including:

The escutcheon shows an open flight in red and black on a golden background. The helmet covers are gold, red and black. The crest is again the open flight in red and black.

The extended coat of arms of the Hungarian branch shows the original shield in the middle. At the top right and bottom left it shows a silver crescent moon on a blue background. Bottom right and top left shows a white background with red diagonal stripes with three yellow hexagonal stars each. Above the coat of arms is the count's crown, above which there are four knight helmets.
