Tarcísio Scaramussa SDB (born September 19, 1950 in Prosperidade, today Vargem Alta , Espírito Santo ) is a Brazilian religious and bishop of Santos .

Life

After he had made his first profession on January 31, 1969 in the religious order of the Salesians of Don Bosco, he completed his philosophical-theological studies, from 1969 to 1972 philosophy and pedagogy at the Faculty of Philosophy, Sciences and Literature of the Pontifical University in São João del Rei . He studied theology from 1975 to 1977 at the Central Institute for Philosophy and Theology in Belo Horizonte . From 1974 to 1975 he specialized in educational science at the Catholic University of Minas Gerais . In 1973 he worked as a teacher at the Colégio Helvécio in Ponte Nova and in 1974 at the Escolas Dom Bosco in Cachoeira do Campo .

His perpetual profession on January 24, 1977 was followed by ordination on December 11 of the same year.

In 1977 he taught for one year at the Catholic University of Minas Gerais, and in 1978 and 1979 at the Dom Bosco Faculty of Philosophy, Science and Literature in São João del-Rei. From 1978 to 1988 he worked as a trainer in the post-novitiate of the Salesians Don Bosco in São João del-Rei, at the same time he was a teacher from 1980 to 1984, from 1985 to 1988 director of the Salesian Institute Anchieta and pastor of the parish São João Batista in Jaciguá and von 1989 to 1990 pastor of the parish of Cristo Luz dos Povos in Belo Horizonte.

From 1985 to 1988 he was the coordinator of the team responsible for the basic church communities in the diocese of Cachoeiro de Itapemirim . From 1987 to 1996 he headed the regional institute for catechetical pastoral care of the Brazilian Bishops' Conference in the Leste II region. From 1990 to 1996 he was also the coordinator of the national team for youth pastoral care. From 2001 to 2002 he was a member of the Leste II Region Directorate of the Brazilian Bishops' Conference.

Within the religious community he was from 1985 to 1991 Provincial Council, 1992-1996 Provincial Vicar and finally 1997-2002 Provincial . In 2000 and 2001 he was President of the Brazilian provinces of the Salesians of Don Bosco. In 2002 he was elected by the General Chapter to the General Council for Social Communication and therefore moved to the Generalate in Rome .

On January 23, 2008 Pope Benedict XVI appointed him . the titular bishop of Segia and auxiliary bishop in Sao Paulo . He was ordained bishop by Odilo Pedro Cardinal Scherer on April 19 of the same year in Vargem Alta . Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Cachoeiro de Itapemirim , Célio de Oliveira Goulart, OFM , and the Bishop of Colatina , Décio Sossai Zandonade SDB .

His motto is: Habitavit in nobis (“He lived among us”) and comes from the Gospel of John ( John 1.14  EU ).

On July 16, 2014, he was appointed Coadjutor Bishop of Santos by Pope Francis . With the age-related resignation of Bishop Jacyr Francisco Braidos CS on May 6, 2015, he succeeded him as Bishop of Santos.
