Celio de Oliveira Goulart

Célio de Oliveira Goulart OFM (born September 14, 1944 in Pirajuí , São Paulo , Brazil ; † January 19, 2018 in São João del-Rei , Minas Gerais , Brazil) was a Brazilian religious and Roman Catholic bishop of São João del- Rei .

Life

Célio de Oliveira Goulart joined the order of the Franciscans , made his solemn profession on February 2, 1968 and was ordained a priest on July 12, 1969 .

Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Leopoldina on June 24, 1998 . He received his episcopal ordination on August 28th of the same year by the Archbishop of Diamantina , Paulo Lopes de Faria ; Co- consecrators were Diogo Reesink OFM, Bishop of Teófilo Otoni , and José Belvino do Nascimento , Bishop of Divinópolis . As a motto he chose a quote from Paul from 1st Corinthians : Crux Dei virtus est (The cross is God's power) ( 1 Cor 1.18  EU ).

On July 9, 2003, he was appointed bishop of Cachoeiro de Itapemirim . On May 26, 2010 he was by Pope Benedict XVI. appointed Bishop of São João del-Rei and introduced to the office on July 17 of the same year.
