The torrent Castle is a castle in the municipality of Germany mountain in Styria . Its history goes back to the 13th century. Today it is privately owned.

Location

The castle is located in the Deutschlandsberg cadastral community of Wildbach . It stands on a small hill in the Wildbach Valley .

history

Originally, the present castle was located at the site one of the Lords of torrent -built, single-storey, surrounded by walls and a moat festival house from the 13th century. After the Wildbacher died out, the Staindorfer came into possession of the property. In 1499 the estate passed into the possession of Paul Parcival von Sunneckh, who had been allowed to call himself 'von Wildenstein' since 1470. Between 1534 and 1540 Sigmund von Wildenstein replaced the mansion that had been destroyed by the Turks with a new building. In the period between 1730 and 1788 major renovations took place, which gave the castle its present appearance. In 1793 Josef Edler von Mosmüller acquired the castle. He was followed by a Count Liechtenberg and Johann Massegg as owners. From 1960 it belonged to Dr. Mihurko. Today it is owned by several private owners.

Franz Schubert stayed at Wildbach Castle from September 10 to 12, 1827 . His song “ Die Forelle ” was not composed for the occasion.

The castle has four corner towers, two of which date from the 16th century. The facade has fine ocher-colored stucco work from around 1730 above the windows , as well as plaster blocks on the corners of the building . The south-eastern tower has an inscription in the basement dated to 1534 and a memorial stone from 1540 on the eastern side. The western extension and the small courtyard of the castle date from around 1730. The inner courtyard has a two-storey pair of arcades . The northern three-storey central building with the staircase was built in 1788, as indicated by an inscription on the south side. There is a clock in the gable of the central building. An inscription plaque can be seen above the entrance gate of the castle, commemorating the visit by Franz Schubert in 1827.

The walls of the staircase and the second floor are decorated with fine stucco. Remnants of wall decorations are still there. There are also several Rococo and Empire ovens in the castle.

The castle chapel is consecrated to St. Anne and received a measurement license in 1681 . The sacred space was later profaned . The altar dates from around 1760.
