History of the castle mill

Equipment of the mill

The Almer Schlossmühle was built in three construction phases from 1870/80. On the north side there is a quarry stone part . In the middle a truss and on the left a brick part . The brick part was built in 1900 as the last construction phase. A bakery was located in the quarry stone part until the 1960s. The mill was in the half-timbered part and the living area in the brick part. There was a weir above Mühle an der Alme. From this a mill ditch went to the mill. The mill was used as a grinding mill for grain and as a sawmill . Around 1900 there were four grain mills and two sawmills in Alme alone. From 1910 the mill was only operated as a sideline. In 1964 the bakery and mill were closed.

Until 1905/07, the mill worked with an overturned water wheel , in which the water falls onto the water wheel from above. Then a Francis turbine with 20 kW was installed to generate electricity . At first the electricity only drove the saw and grinder mill. From 1914/15 the miller also used electricity in his living area. When there was a shortage of petroleum due to the First World War , the electricity from the mill was also used to power the Alme. For this purpose, the village built a power grid in the village and a more powerful generator was installed in the mill . It was not until 1958 that VEW took over the power supply in Alme . The mill's Francis turbine is still used today to generate electricity.

In 1997 the castle mill was restored.
