Schloss Alme is located in Alme , a district of Brilon , in the Hochsauerlandkreis in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany.

history

The history of Alme Castle (former Niederalme Castle) is closely linked to Oberalme Castle (today's Gut Haus Tinne ). Oberalme Castle was built in 1325. At that time, the Hallinghausen archdeaconate area with Alme belonged politically to the Duchy of Westphalia in Cologne , but ecclesially to the Diocese of Paderborn .

The Lords of Thülen sold their house in 1428 and stone in Niederalme with all its goods to Godert of Meschede . Two years later, in 1430, Archbishop Dietrich von Köln left the Tinne estate to his henchman Godert von Meschede as a “desert farm”.

In 1493 a distinction was first made between the two houses at Ober- and Niederalme, which, however, both belonged to the cousins Gerd and Heinrich von Meschede as joint property. The construction of Niederalme Castle by Gerhard von Meschede then took place in 1506. As part of an inheritance dispute, the property was divided in 1589.

Later Wilhelm Rötger von Meschede was able to reunite the two knightly seats. In the first half of the 18th century, Dietrich Adam von Meschede (son of Wilhelm Rötger) had today's baroque moated castle Alme built on the property of the old Niederalm castle. The front on the south side bears the year 1744 in addition to the alliance coat of arms Meschede and Bruch. Older parts of the castle were included in the construction of the castle. In the 19th century Dieterich von Bocholtz was majorate lord. In 1912, after several changes of ownership, the castle came into the possession of the Counts of Spee .

Architecture and equipment

Ground plan of the first and second floors

The three-wing complex consisting of a manor house (building) and economic buildings was built around an inner courtyard that opened to the north. The quarry stone masonry with ashlar structure was plastered. The complex is surrounded by a moat on three sides . The mansion, a two-storey building spread out over a wide area, stands on a high base. It is covered with a hipped roof. The left western part at the head end, without the high, protruding base, still belongs to a previous building. The front on the park side with a three-axis risalit porch is structured by pilasters . The rich portal with cartouches on the roof bears the coat of arms of the von Meschede-Bruch and the year 1744. The windows are richly framed and suspicious. The house is accessible via a courtyard-side, two-flight flight of stairs . The staircase with the Bochholtz-Schade coat of arms was probably built in 1830. The portal leads to a spacious staircase and then to the garden room with a stucco ceiling. Other rooms, especially those in the western part, are equipped with stucco ceilings . The side wings with their billet roof are single-storey. The passage with the gabled portal on the street side shows the coat of arms of Meschede-Bruch and the year 1756. On the courtyard side there are two older coat of arms stones in the two arches . The left with the signature Meschede 1601 , the right shows a crowned lion and the writing BEVREN (Philipp von M, Electoral Cologne Council, Droste zu Brilon, 9 September 1582 Anna von Büren . The east wall of the west wing is through a richly executed door with a skylight In the west wall of the east wing there are two coats of arms of those of Meschede-Bruch, one bears the year 1750, the other is not marked. In the castle park there is a sandstone figure of Johannes Nepomuk on a ledge above the moat . It is 1.70 meters high The coat of arms in the base is marked with Anno 1759.
