Schlumbergera kautskyi is a species of plant in the genus Schlumbergera from the cactus family(Cactaceae).

description

Schlumbergera kautskyi grows lithophytically with very variable shoot sections . The trimmed, shiny dark green shoot sections are 2.2 to 4 inches long and 1.4 to 2.5 inches wide. Their edges are serrated two to three times slightly to sharp on each side. In each notch there is a compound areole that is covered with brown wool and short bristles.

The zygomorphic flowers stand at a uniform angle and are slightly ascending. They are cyclamen purple, grow up to 5 centimeters long and reach a diameter of 2.7 centimeters. The square pericarpel is reddish green. The square fruits are yellow-green when ripe.

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Schlumbergera kautskyi is common in the Brazilian state of Espírito Santo at altitudes of 900 to 1300 meters. The first description as a subspecies Schlumbergera truncata subsp. kautskyi was published in 1991 by John F. Horobin and AJS McMillan . Nigel Paul Taylor (* 1956) elevated it to the rank of a species in the same year.

Schlumbergera Kautskyi is in the endangered Red List species the IUCN as " Endangered (EN) ," d. H. classified as endangered.
