Schlumbergera orssichiana is a species of plant in the genus Schlumbergera from the cactus family(Cactaceae).

description

Schlumbergera orssichiana grows epiphytically with hanging shoots . The leaf-like flat shoot sections are 5 to 7.5 inches long and 3.2 to 4.5 inches wide. Their edges are serrated two to three times on each side. In each notch there is a thorn loose areole . At the end of the shoot there is an elongated, composite areole.

The slightly zygomorphic , "fluttery" appearing flowers open wide. They are up to 9 centimeters long and reach the same diameter. Your flower tube is short. The white bracts are not bent back and turn carmine red to flamed towards the edges and to the tip. The light green pericarpel is pentagonal or hexagonal. The fleshy, blunt, pentagonal or hexagonal fruits are greenish yellow to white.

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Schlumbergera orssichiana is distributed in Brazil in the northwest of the state of Rio de Janeiro and in the east of the state of São Paulo at altitudes of 1,600 to 2,500 meters. The first description was published in 1978 by Wilhelm Barthlott and AJS McMillan .

In the Red List of Threatened Species of IUCN is the species as " Endangered (EN) ," d. H. listed as endangered.
