Ornamental filefish are 30 centimeters long and have a very high-backed, laterally flattened body, which is covered by all sorts of branched skin appendages. This dissolves the body contours ( somatolysis ). The head is large, the mouth terminal . The basic color is sand-colored or gray; narrow black longitudinal lines and isolated zones with small blue dots cover the flanks.
