Location of Schnedinghausen in Lower Saxony

Schnedinghausen is a district of the city of Northeim .

Marienkapelle, formerly the chapel of the Amelungsborn cloister courtyard

history

The settlement with the Low German name Snetjehusen was founded around 1200 . The prefix Sned , abbreviated to Sen (= border), indicates that the place must have been on the border of two rulers. It belonged to the Amelungsborn monastery . Monks in the village managed the monastery courtyard. After the dissolution of the Amelungsborn monastery, the properties in Schnedinghausen also became the property of the Braunschweigisch-Wolfenbüttel state and were now leased.

In 1776 Hanns-Ernst von Hardenberg bought the former cloister courtyard. Presumably he built the mill, the brewery and the distillery. From 1777 there was a Hardenberg subcourt over Schnedinghausen, Berwartshausen and Hillerse on the estate in Schnedinghausen . The cloister courtyard was then Hardenbergian until 1803. In the same year, four farmers each from Schnedinghausen and Berwartshausen bought the farm with all justice, including jurisdiction, for 30,000 thalers. From that time onwards, there was no tithing of the family at Hardenberg, but Schnedinghausen was still obliged to pay taxes to the King of England and the House of Hanover. Up until the middle of the 19th century, the village did not have its own school, the children had to drive to Moringen every day, and it was not until 1852 that one was built in Schnedinghausen. After 110 years it was closed in 1962, and the alternative school was again in Moringen.

In 1920 the place got access to electricity by installing a generator in the village mill. The local council was elected for the first time in 1996.

On March 1, 1974 Schnedinghausen was incorporated into the district town of Northeim.
