history
The earliest mention of Edesheim takes place in 1141, when that village is also mentioned in connection with goods that belonged to the Northeim St. Blasien monastery . In prehistoric times, the first residents settled at this point, which was outside the floodplain of the Leine. Judging by the name Edesheim, it is obvious that a large manor is to be seen as the first essential part of the village, as the prefix mentioned in the documents means Ed , Ad and Od Gut. The place name varies in the earliest times in the testimonies, among other things, between Edeshem , Edighem or Edessen , but the syllable Ed remains an essential component. The earliest occupations were fishing, hunting, cattle raising and some agriculture. In the 19th century, bone and tooth fragments of a woolly rhinoceros were found in a gravel pit near Edesheim, and investigations initiated at the site uncovered further finds.
On March 1, 1974 Edesheim was incorporated into the district town of Northeim.
