geography

Leine bridge

The place is in the Leinetal to the left of the Leine in the immediate vicinity of the Northeimer Seenplatte shortly below the confluence of the Rhume River into the Leine. The state road L 572 connects Hollenstedt with the city center of Northeim via a protected bridge structure. The Bölle brook flows into the Leine directly at the village. The place is divided into the village of Hollenstedt and Gut Wickershausen just under 3 kilometers west-southwest of the village on the slope of the Böllenberg. The closest neighboring town is Stöckheim .

history

The place was first mentioned in writing in a deed of donation by Otto I for the Gandersheim monastery in 947 as Hullanstedi . In its eventful history, Hollenstedt experienced numerous wars and feuds . In 1409 a feud broke out between the Lords of Uslar-Gleichen and Otto Cocles , the reason being that the von Uslar-Gleichen claimed certain rights in the Feldmark and in the village of Hollenstedt. After an attack on Duke Otto, the Lords of Uslar-Gleichen were defeated. When the war between the Hanseatic cities and the dukes of Göttingen broke out in 1462, Hollenstedt, as in the later Thirty Years' War , also suffered from it. The sometimes strongest turning point came during the Seven Years' War , when French and local troops marched through the community and Hollenstedt had to take out a loan due to its poor financial situation. The location of Hollenstedt at the confluence of the Rhume and Bölle in the Leine was included in the graphic design of the town's coat of arms. The Wickershausen estate emerged from a village that was first mentioned in writing as Wichardeshusen in 1170 . The conversion into a monastery fore took place no later than the beginning of the 16th century.

On March 1, 1974, Hollenstedt, which until then belonged to the district of Einbeck , was incorporated into the district town of Northeim.
