Jalu Kurek

Jalu Kurek (because of a mistake in the baptismal register the wrong "real" first name Franciszek is often given) (* February 2, 1904 , † November 10, 1983 in Rabka-Zdrój ) was a Polish writer and representative of the Krakow avant-garde .

Graduated from the Philosophy Department of the Jagiellonian University in Cracow (Polish Philology and Romance Studies), he deepened his studies at the University of Naples . He was a longtime friend of Filippo Tommaso Marinetti .

He was strongly connected to the origins of his family in the Beskids (his mother came from the village of Naprawa , Jordanów municipality, Powiat Suski ) and wrote a lot about it. He had the greatest successes with The Flu is Raging in Naprawa, Polish Grypa szaleje w Naprawie (1934) and Woda wyżej (1935), German about: "The water rises".

He was a versatile writer of poetry, short stories and novels. For many years he worked as a journalist and editor, what remained of that were his reports, feature sections, essays and other articles. He is the author of many translations from Italian poetry (including the sonnets to Laura by Francesco Petrarch ). As a translator from Italian, he helped popularize the works of Italian futurists in Poland. He was also engaged in theater and film. He painted, hiked in the mountains - was a mountaineer - and did sports.
