Arthur Shepherd

Arthur Shepherd (born February 19, 1880 in Paris , Idaho , † January 12, 1958 in Cleveland , Ohio ) was an American composer.

Shepherd studied from 1892 to 1897 at the New England Conservatory with Percy Goetschius and George Chadwick . He then worked as a conductor, pianist and composer in Salt Lake City until 1909 . He taught at the New England Conservatory until 1920 and then moved to Cleveland. There he worked as a conductor of the Cleveland Orchestra and taught as a professor at Western Reserve University . In 1938 he was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Letters .

In addition to two symphonies and other works for orchestra, he composed chamber music and numerous songs .
