history

The Schnigge company was founded in Düsseldorf in 1992 . In 1998 there was a formal re-establishment as a securities trading bank under the name Börsenmakler Schnigge AG . In 1999 the company went public in Düsseldorf.

One or two years later, the dot-com speculative bubble burst ; the stock market fell into a bear market and the financially sensitive Schnigge AG found itself in financial difficulties. At the end of 2002 she became insolvent . After a temporary cessation of business operations and a few difficult years, the Stuttgart-based DKM Asset Management AG joined the company as the new main shareholder in 2005 , and Schnigge AG was renamed DKM Wertpapierhandelsbank AG . In the course of a further change of ownership, the company name changed to Schnigge Wertpapierhandelsbank AG in 2007 . At that time, the company's core business consisted of order book management for securities on the Düsseldorf , Hamburg and Frankfurt stock exchanges as well as brokerage . In corporate finance business, succeeded in the years to placement of various corporate bonds , which from 2012 by a self-powered drawing platform was supported.

In 2016 the company changed its legal form; the AG became a European company (SE). In the same year there was another temporary bankruptcy after the processing of a large securities order for an institutional client was delayed. As a result, most of the business collapsed. In addition to the order book management in Düsseldorf, which was already available, the one in Hamburg was also lost, as was the trading business with many important customers. The owner changed again: As part of a management buy-out , director Florian Weber acquired 92% of the company's shares.

At the beginning of January 2017, the Handelsblatt reported that Schnigge needed 1.4 million euros of fresh equity and was planning to issue bonds.

The company's headquarters were relocated from Düsseldorf to Frankfurt in 2017.

Schnigge has been in deficit since 2013 and tried to "strategically realign" the business. After a failed capital increase , the company surrendered its license to operate banking and financial services in August 2018 and ceased business activities.

On October 11, 2018, the bank filed an application for insolvency at the Frankfurt am Main district court and is to be restructured in protective shield proceedings .
