The Scholtz 22 is a light and modern one design cabin racer, designed by the Hungarian yacht designer and shipyard owner Imre Scholtz.
The boat has been produced since 1997 in the Hungarian Style Yacht shipyard near the city of Vesprem, approx. 20 km from Lake Balaton. The Scholtz 22 is available in the versions "Racing", "Day Sailor" and "Touring".
With his new design, Imre Scholtz immediately won the famous Barcolana regatta in Trieste in 1997 against a field of 121 boats. Around 150 boats have been produced since then.
Scholtz 22 Racing
The "Racing" with sails of 29 m² upwind and 70 m² downwind (gennaker max. 50 m²) is a fun boat with a 1.5 m long gennaker boom that can be adjusted laterally. On the cockpit roof, two winches are used to guide the headsail or gennaker sheet. A traveler rail is attached to the cockpit floor. The racing version has straps and is used for regattas with 3 to 4 people.
The main sail is exposed and strongly rounded and also battened with 5 battens. Roller slides are used optionally. The class association allows Dacron or laminate sails. There are 2 reefs, the foot is free-flying. The foresail is driven on stay riders or as a roll-up jib and is optionally equipped with up to 3 battens.
Scholtz 22 Day Sailor
The "Day Sailor" is based on the same hull shape with sails of 24 m² upwind and 50 m² downwind (gennaker 35 m²). There is no gennaker pole or traveler scaffolded at the factory.
Scholtz 22 Touring
The "Touring" version also uses the same hull shape, the rig of the "Day Sailor", but differs in that it has an extended cabin and a correspondingly shortened cockpit.
hull
Deck and hull are made of fiberglass (GRP) with a polyester resin matrix in COREMAT sandwich construction using Biaxal fabric. Reinforcements are laminated locally, e.g. B. for load introduction for the keel box.
The keel can be raised using a tackle and weighs 230 kg with the ballast bomb. Buoyancy areas in the foredeck and aft make the boat unsinkable.
Below deck, cabin
Below deck there are up to 4 berths, 2 V-shaped forward berths and 2 dog berths aft. The window areas are large, the keel box dominates the companionway area, and storage space is available on both sides as well as in the foredeck.
Rigging, rigging, sails
The rig has a classic 7/8 rigging with heavily swept 45 ° spreaders , upper and lower shrouds. The mast and boom from the manufacturer Z-Spars are made of aluminum.
The rig dimensions are:
I = 7200 mm
P = 8137 mm
J = 1932 mm
Regatta and races
The Scholtz 22 can often only be found in the middle field at regattas due to its very good yardstick classification (DSV YST 96). This is due to the trimming sensitivity and the rather fast overpowering with increasing wind.
