Schoofs Nunatak

The Schoofs Nunatak is an approximately 1500  m high and isolated Nunatak in Palmerland on the Antarctic Peninsula . It rises 30 km west-southwest of Mount Barkow from the otherwise structureless ice sheet west of the head ends of the Meinardus and Haines glaciers .

The United States Geological Survey mapped it on the basis of its own measurements and aerial photographs of the United States Navy from 1961 to 1967. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named it in 1968 after the radiation researcher Gerald J. Schoofs, who from 1965 to 1966 on the Byrd station was operating.
