The Meinardus Glacier is a sweeping glacier on the Lassiter coast of the Palmerland on the Antarctic Peninsula . It flows in an east-northeast direction to immediately east of Mount Barkow , where the Haines Glacier joins from the northwest, before finally reaching the New Bedford Inlet from the east, immediately west of the Court-Nunatak .
He was discovered during the United States Antarctic Service Expedition (1939-1941) during an overflight in December 1940. The first aerial photographs were taken in 1947 during an overflight as part of the Ronne Antarctic Research Expedition (1947-1948) led by the US polar explorer Finn Ronne , who also carried out geodetic surveys in collaboration with the Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey (FIDS). The FIDS named it after the German geographer Wilhelm Meinardus (1867–1952), who published, among other things, the meteorological results of the First German Antarctic Expedition (1901–1903) under the direction of Erich von Drygalski .
