The terrible acacia ( Vachellia horrida (L.) Kyal. & Boatwr. , Syn .: Acacia horrida (L.) Willd. , Acacia latronum (L. f.) Willd. , Mimosa horrida L. , Mimosa latronum L. f. , Acacia horrida chip. ) is a plant from the genus of Vachellia within the family Leguminosae (Fabaceae).
description
The terrible acacia is a heavily thorny bush or small tree that reaches heights of growth of 2–4 meters or higher. The short-stalked leaves are bipinnate, the elliptical to elongated, thick leaflets are up to 6 mm long. Extra-floral nectaries are present on the petioles . The light to grayish-white, pointed thorns can be over 10 cm long, they are usually paired and grown together. The larger thorns are often hollow. The short and glass brush-shaped inflorescences are loose, whitish and axillary spikes , they appear individually or in pairs. The small four-fold flowers have many long protruding stamens and an upper ovary with a long, laterally attached style. The petals are cream-colored.
Blackish, flattened and sickle-shaped to straight, about 2.5-5 cm x 1-2 cm legumes with up to four seeds are formed. The light brownish seeds are elliptical, flattened and about 5 mm in size.

The Vachellia horrida occurs in India , Ethiopia , Kenya , Uganda , Somalia and Sudan .
