Schrem (desert)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Schrem (also Alter Hof ) is a deserted area in the Geiselwinder district of Holzberndorf in the Lower Franconian district of Kitzingen . The settlement was probably abandoned in the 16th or 17th centuries.

Geographical location

The deserted site is in the northeast of the Holzberndorf district at the foot of the Geisberg, east of the Hohn am Berg area in the Neustadt an der Aisch-Bad Windsheim district in Central Franconia . The district boundary runs immediately east of the settlement. In the west is the Schweissbach, a tributary of the rich Ebrach . Burggrub is to the northwest . The Alter Hof corridor is reminiscent of the settlement.

history

The place name Schrem refers to the natural occurrences in the area around the desert site. In Middle High German there is the word schrem , which means stripe. The Alter Hof corridor has such an elongated shape. So the place name can be translated with stripes. The rare mention of Schrem may also point to the nearby Seeram desert . A yard at this point is, however, secured.

Schrem was first mentioned in the 16th century. Around 1592 the district of the Burghaslach district court was described . Schrem was part of the judicial district and appeared at that time “between Holtzbebendorf u. Honn bei der Kappel ”. The noble family of the Fuchs von Bimbach were wealthy in the village at that time and also ruled the village over Schrem. A short time later the village was abandoned. It was not until 1835 that the Alter Hof corridor was described at the site of the settlement.
