The Shu-Ili Mountains ( Kazakh Шу-Іле таулары Şw-İle tawları; Russian Чу-Илийские горы Tschu-Ilijskije gory ) is a mountain range in the Kazakh steppe .
The Schu-Ili Mountains are assigned to the northern Tian Shan . It extends north of Otar in a north-westerly direction over a length of 220 km. In the south-eastern part it reaches a maximum height of 1294 m . At Schoqpar , the higher Kindiktas mountain range, a northwestern branch of the Transili-Alatau , meets the Schu-Ili mountain range from the south. Further north, the Shu-Ili Mountains form the watershed between Lake Balkhash in the east and the Schu river system in the west. The Chantau settlement is located on the western flank of the northern mountain range.
The Schu-Ili Mountains consist of granite , mica slate and limestone . The mountain slopes are covered by desert and steppe landscape.
