The shed warbler ( Sylvia melanothorax ) is a singing bird from the genus of Whitethroats ( Sylvia ). It occurs in Cyprus .

description

The common warbler is 12.5 to 13.5 centimeters tall. It looks very similar to the velvet warbler , but the umbrella feathers, arm covers and large arm covers have wide whitish edges. The eye ring is thin and white. The underside is light, the flanks are gray-beige. The under tail-coverts have dark centers. The base of the beak is yellow-pink.

The male has coarse dark spots throughout on the underside. The head is black, the back gray. The female is only spotted on the chest and throat. The head is gray, the back is gray-brown.

voice

The lure is a throaty, clicking "zreck". When alarmed, she calls out, hoarsely, "Tschreh tschreh". The warning call is rattling brightly "ze-ze-ze-ze-ze ..."

The vocals are dry, bumpy chirping and a bit uneven. It is slow, relatively monotonous and contains almost no light whistling tones.

Habitat and Distribution

The common warbler lives in open landscapes ( macchia ) on Cyprus. The nest is made low in a bush. It is a migratory bird that overwinters in wadis in Israel , Jordan, and the Sinai .
