from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Swabian Women's Association is an association that has set itself the goal of promoting women's education, in particular vocational training for social professions.

history

The Swabian Women's Association was founded in Stuttgart in 1873 . The general assembly of the General German Women's Association in Stuttgart in the same year gave the impetus for this . The aim of the association was to promote women's education, especially practice-oriented education, in order to enable women to work. As early as January 1874 , a subsidiary business school was established in Stuttgart, where young women were trained for commercial professions. In May 1874 the women's labor school took place, in which the young girls were taught handicraft techniques that on the one hand could serve to earn a living and on the other hand were helpful for running a household. The women's labor school trained industrial, industrial and specialist teachers. In 1875 a kindergarten was founded, in which kindergarten teachers have also been officially trained since 1894 . A cooking school was founded in 1891 and a household school in 1895 . The association was not only interested in training women, but also tried to find jobs for women. So he ran a job agency since 1874. The newspaper “Frauenberuf”, published since 1897 , informed women about career opportunities, about activities of the women's movement and women's associations and the legal position of women. The magazine was discontinued in 1914. In 1917, the social women's school was also founded, in which carers were trained. Since 1971 it has been state-owned as a technical college for social affairs.

Club houses

In 1876 the first club house in Reinsburgstrasse was bought, where all schools were housed under one roof. In 1901 the second club house followed in Silberburgstrasse .

Current

Today the association concentrates on the training of social professions. In the AKAS (Akademie Silberburg) and at the PIKS (Pedagogical Institute for Social Pedagogy) there are also various further training offers. The chairman of the board of the association is the Stuttgart councilor Beate Bulle-Schmid.
