The Schwönekenquerstraße is a street of Lübeck .

location

The approximately 120 meter long Schwönekenquerstraße is located in the northwest of the old town island, in the Marien-Magdalenen quarter . It begins at the Engelsgrube opposite the confluence of the Engelswisch , runs southward and ends at the Fischergrube opposite the confluence of the Kupferschmiedestraße .

history

Road 1327 is first mentioned in a document with the Low German - Latin mixed name Dwerstrate inter fossam piscatorum et fossam anglicam (cross street between Fischergrube and Engelsgrube). In 1347 the name was Swenekendwerstrate , derived from the Stupa Swoneken bathing room in house number 14 , which in turn was named after the owner Swoneken Clot , who had owned the building since 1343. The building has been home to a bathing room since 1291. This name was retained over the following centuries, the spellings varied:

  • 1377: Zwenekenstrate
  • 1399: Zwenkendwerstrate
  • 1441: Zwennekenstrate
  • 1598: Schwoencken-Dwasstrate
  • 1608: Schwonkendwerstrate
  • 1629: Schwonikendwerstrate

The current name has been officially established since 1852.
