George Miller (born May 17, 1945 in Richmond , California ) is an American legal scholar and politician of the Democratic Party . From 1975 to 2015 he was a member of the US House of Representatives for California .

biography

After attending Diablo Valley College in Pleasant Hill , he studied at San Francisco State University (SFSU), where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts (AB) in 1968 . He then completed postgraduate studies in law at the Law School of the University of California, Davis (UC Davis) in 1972 with a Juris Doctor (JD). He then worked as a lawyer . He was also from 1969 to 1974 legislative assistant to the Democratic Majority Leader in the California Senate .

In 1974 he was elected to the US House of Representatives for the first time and represented there after 19 re-elections from January 3, 1975, the seventh congressional electoral district of California. During his long term membership, he was chairman of the US House Select Committee on Children, Youth, and Families from 1983 to 1991 , and chairman of the US House Committee on Natural Resources from 1991 to 1995 ). In 2007 Miller became chairman of the US House Committee on Education and Labor . After being re-elected in 2012, he represented the eleventh district of his state from January 3, 2013 as the successor to Jerry McNerney . In 2014 he decided not to re-election and thus resigned on January 3, 2015 after 40 years from the Congress of.
