history

Winkelhof in Schwabendorf

The Faulenrost estate had been owned by the von Hahn family since the middle of the 18th century . Friedrich von Hahn had the castle built there. In the 1930s, the estate's heir, Count Septimus von Hahn, ran into financial difficulties. After the estate was initially supposed to go to the Reich Medical Association, it decided in favor of the estate in Alt Rehse near Neubrandenburg. Rotten rust was finally awarded to the settlement company Nordsiedlung , which recruited settlers from southern Germany, especially from Swabia.

About one and a half kilometers south of the village, a new settlement for 35 settlers was built, named Schwabendorf after the origin of the residents. The village was given a hamlet-like structure without a center and functional buildings, which is atypical for Mecklenburg, but widespread in southern Germany . The architect was Carl Christoph Lörcher .

The houses were partly laid out as corner courtyards, partly as Einfirsthäuser. Original plans with a separate entrance area were not implemented. The living area, stables and barns have been put under one roof. Stables and barns were designed as wooden structures, the residential parts were built with half-timbering , which was intended to remind the residents of their home in Württemberg. Similar buildings were erected in Klockow near Friedland in East Mecklenburg in the early 1930s , after which the National Socialists again followed traditional forms. As a result, these buildings remained largely unique.

The houses have been partially modernized, but have largely been preserved in their original form. A total of seven houses in the village are listed.
