The Black Lake is a lake in the urban area of Krakow am See in the Rostock district in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. It lies entirely in the Nossentiner / Schwinzer Heide nature reserve .

The almost triangular lake has a size of 17.3 hectares with a maximum extension of 860 by 335 meters. The water level is 50.2 m above sea level. NHN . At the southern end, the body of water has an outflow into the Langsee to the west . However, this trench does not always have water.

The Krakow district of Neu Sammit is 700 meters southwest of the Black Lake. The state road 37 and the Güstrow – Meyenburg railway line run a short distance to the east . With the exception of the southeastern shore, the lake is mainly surrounded by pine forest ( Pinus sylvatica ). At the northern tip there is a broken forest with deciduous trees .

Area natural monument

The 2.1 hectare area natural monument occupies the northern tip of the Black Lake. This is one to 4.5 meters powerful mesotrophic -acid silting Moor with still intact bog vegetation. In addition to various peat mosses, there are stocks of narrow-leaved cotton grass ( Eriophorum angustifolium ) and round-leaved sundew ( Drosera rotundifolia ). The panicle sedge ( Carex paniculata ) and the beak sedge ( Carex rostrata ) as well as the cranberry ( Oxycoccus palustris ) have also been detected in the area.

Sinking groundwater levels have led to increased immigration of woody plants such as the downy birch ( Betula pubescens ) and pine in the silting bog at the northern tip of the Black Lake . The border area is formed by black alder and gray willow bushes. Since July 25, 1984 the northern tip has been designated as an area natural monument.
