The Bronko Nagurski Trophy has been awarded annually since 1993 by American sports journalists under the auspices of the Charlotte Touchdown Club to the best defensive player in the NCAA in college football . The award commemorates the member of the College Football Hall of Fame Bronko Nagurski . The Charlotte Touchdown Club was founded in 1990 and is not for profit. The prize is a contrast to the Heisman Trophy , which is usually awarded to the best attacking player in college football.
