The species occurs with large distribution gaps from France via Siberia to Japan. In Europe it is boreomontane and inhabits Scandinavia and northern Russia in addition to the higher mountains. It is missing in southern Europe. German sites are in the Alps , in the Fichtelgebirge , Franconian Forest , Vogtland and Erzgebirge . It is widespread in Austria and Switzerland, but is absent in the north-eastern Alps.

Way of life

The larva develops in one to two years on plants such as forest cranesbills , peonies or fireweed . The diurnal beetle flies on mountain meadows from June to August and visits flowers.
