The Black-throated Brownelle ( Prunella atrogularis ) is a species of bird within the genus of the Brownelle . Due to the very large distribution area, the apparently stable population trend and the probably moderately small to large populations, the species is classified as not endangered by the IUCN (LC, Least Concern).
features
The black-throated brown-haired reaches a body length of 15 cm and a weight of 19 g. In the nominate form, the upper head and neck are greyish brown and dashed black, the chin and upper throat are black. The over-eye stripe is long and pale cream-colored or white to orange yellow-brown, the under-beard stripe white to orange yellow-brown, the ear-covers blackish. The area between the neck and shoulder feathers (coat) is dashed dark brown, the chest and flanks are orange yellow-brown. The ventral side is whitish. In the first winter dress, the black throat can be partially covered by pale hems, rarely the black is completely missing on the throat.
The iris is pale brown, the beak black, the feet brownish flesh-colored.
Habitat and way of life
During the breeding season the black-throated brown-haired prefers low, dense, thorny undergrowth and avoids open habitats. It lives in the subalpine zone in the Ural Mountains in groups of spruce trees as well as in mountain larch forests and willow bushes. The subspecies Prunella atrogularis huttoni occurs in coniferous and deciduous forests as well as in scrub, often with juniper bushes.
Black-throated brownelles are monogamous , the breeding season lasts from May to August. The voluminous, cup-shaped nest is built in trees or bushes, usually in spruce or juniper, from twigs, moss, grass and stems and lined with grass and hair. The clutch consists of three to five eggs. Black-throated brown elk feed primarily on insects and other small arthropods , worms, and snails. Black-throated brownelles are migrating birds .
Subspecies and distribution
Two subspecies have been described of the black-throated brown fish :
- Prunella atrogularis atrogularis ( Brandt , 1843) - nominate form , northern and central Ural Mountains and northwestern Russia. The subspecies winters in eastern Iran, in Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan south to Afghanistan, to the northwest Indian subcontinent and in the extreme southwest of China.
- Prunella atrogularis huttoni ( Moore , 1854) - Mountains of Western and Central Asia from the Altai in the south to the Tian Shan and Pamir Mountains , partly stretching to the south-west of Asia. In March 2001, the subspecies was, possibly as Irrgast in Qin Ling spotted -Gebirgszug in central China.
