description

Two ravines to the desert from the former Vorwerk Neudeck - view in west direction from the earthwork of the desert

The area of the desert is surrounded by an earthwork - trench with wall-like deposited excavation - with a diameter of about 250 meters. Finds and findings show a temporal and spatial relationship to Nidberg Castle. The settlement was obviously non-agricultural, as the removal with a ditch and references to smelting and metalworking suggests. During excavations, two ovens, a completely destroyed racing oven and several sunk houses were examined. The found material recovered in the process dates from the late 12th to 13th / 14th centuries. Century. The area is also connected to a partially multi-lane ravine .

According to the archaeological finds and findings, it is a castle-settlement complex, which is connected with the colonization of the area in the 12th century. This served to protect a path at the transition over the Schwarze Pockau and to direct the flow of settlers.

The desolation of the castle and settlement occurred in the late 13th, at the latest in the transition to the 14th century. At this point in time the settlement of the surrounding area was largely complete and Lauterstein Castle to the north-west formed the center of the feudal district from then on.
