Swedish Embassy in Tallinn

The Swedish Embassy in Tallinn is the headquarters of the diplomatic representation of Sweden in Estonia . It has been located at Langstrasse ( Estonian Pikk ) 28 in the Estonian capital Tallinn ( German  Reval ) since 1994 .

Anders Ljunggren has been an ambassador since 2013 .

Architecture and history of the embassy building

The embassy building in the old town of Reval was built in the 1670s. Its builder was from Ingria originating Axel von Rosen , the son of the governor Bogislaus of roses . There were several dilapidated houses on the property that were then demolished. The city of Reval planned to transform Langstrasse into an elegant street. Georg Teuffel is believed to be the architect of the house . The three-storey building was built in the Baroque style. The facade of the first floor is rusticated . Above this, the seven-axis facade is harmoniously structured with colossal pilasters . Above the middle three axes, which emerge as a flat risalit , there is a triangular gable. The building is covered by a high hipped roof .

After Axel von Rosen's death, the building remained in the possession of the von Rosen family for a long time, but at the end of the 18th century it was sold to Vice-Admiral Palaenskoy and used as an admiralty . Further changes of ownership and multiple alterations followed, so that the room layout of the 17th century was not retained. In the former ballroom of the house, however, traces of the original baroque design have been preserved. During the time of the Soviet occupation of Estonia, a school was housed in the building.

On January 1, 1992, the Swedish state bought the property. A fundamental renovation of the building followed. In 1994 the Swedish Embassy was housed in the house. The ambassador's residence is also located in the house.
